John Deliman

During a career spanning 36 years, John Deliman served as a string education specialist, orchestra conductor, chamber music coach, and clinician.  As an orchestra director and string education specialist in the Upper Arlington City School District, The Upper Arlington High School Symphony and Chamber Orchestra received national acclaim, performing at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago and winning three national orchestra competitions, including the prestigious American String Teachers Association National Orchestra Festival.  The Upper Arlington High School Symphony has also performed in Carnegie Hall.

Mr. Deliman has been on the conducting staff  of the MasterWorks Festival, and served as music director of the Columbus Symphony Cadet Orchestra for twelve years.  He has also served as orchestra conductor, chamber music coach and clinician for various organizations including the Florida State University Summer Music Camp, Furman University Orchestra and served as Dean of Students.  He has coached chamber music and orchestra for the Chamber Music Connection in Worthington, OH.  Mr, Deliman has guest conducted honors and regional orchestras in Nebraska, Tennessee and Ohio, and has conducted educational and summer concerts for the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra.  He also serves as a string and orchestra adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association.

Mr. Deliman received his Bachelor of Music degree in violin from Bowling Green State University and was a University Teaching Fellow at Florida State University where he conducted the Tallahassee Youth Orchestra and the FSU Repertory Orchestra.  He received his Master of Music Education degree from Florida State with a specialty in String Education.

Mr. Deliman was the first recipient of the Community Music Educator Award sponsored by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.  He was selected the 2006 Orchestra Teacher of the Year by the Ohio String Teachers Association.  In April of 2008 he was named a "Distinguished Graduate" of Bowling Green State University.  In 2009 the United States Department of Education named him a "Distinguished Teacher" n the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Mr. Deliman is very active in the music ministry of the First Congregational Church, Columbus, OH.  He is an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Columbus Blue Jackets.  John Deliman resides in Dublin, Ohio with his wife Cynthia.
