Dr. Miriam Burns

Miriam Burns, an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Ohio State School of Music, is an internationally renowned conductor and music director who has conducted some of the top orchestras around the world, including the Bournemouth Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Magdeburg Philharmonic, numerous orchestras in the US, and was on the conducting staff of the New York Philharmonic, hired by Kurt Masur. Currently, she is Artistic Director of the Paragon Philharmonia in northern Virginia and the Orchestra of the Redeemer in New York City. Recent past music directorships include the Tysons McLean Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony, Kenosha Symphony and the Lawton Philharmonic.

 

The School of Music’s Director of Orchestras and pedagogue of Orchestral Conducting, Burns earned BM and MM degrees in violin performance, professional studies and a master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Mannes College of Music in New York City, and an Artist Diploma in conducting from the Yale School of Music.
